Multiple reports show that Mazda has recalled several vehicles nationwide over serious injury and death risks in the event of accidents.
This recall is important and should not be ignored as it involves air bags. In the event of accidents, these features are essential in keeping occupants safe. In the presence of defective or faulty air bags, occupants are put in grave danger.
According to the company, the 2007 through 2011 Mazda CX-7, CX-9, and the 2009 through 2011 Mazda6 are impacted.
The vehicles come with air bag inflators in the passenger frontal air bag modules that could rupture once they are deployed in the event of an accident. The issue stems from a propellant degradation that may occur over time or thanks to exposure to humidity. Due to this reality, the rupture may cause the internal metal parts of the air bags to be expelled with a great deal of force. In that case, the metal fragments may hit occupants in the vehicle, exposing them to serious and potentially deadly injuries.
This Mazda recall is the latest to be associated with Takata air bag recalls that have already impacted millions of vehicles nationwide.
So far, this air bag issue has already led to the deaths of 17 people globally.
In order to make sure that all impacted vehicle owners are getting their cars fixed promptly, the company is notifying all impacted vehicle owners this coming week. If you own one of the recalled vehicles and you’re not contacted, reach out to the manufacturer for more details.
Once at a dealership, the passenger frontal air bag inflator will be fully replaced for an alternate inflator for free.
